Spotlight On Energy Forum, a Business Develoment Success Story, interview with Ms Wathsala Herath, Administrative Officer of Energy Forum

An important achievement of Energy Forum was the establishment of the Federation of Electricity Consumer Societies (FECS) which is a community organisation that functions through the joint action of Electricity Consumer Societies attached to isolated rural hydro electricity plants distributed throughout Sri Lanka. 10,250 families currently obtain electricity from these plants, covering a total population of around 51,000. AERF-GAPfund project successfully enters its second year!

The Decentralized Bio-diesel Resource Center project supported through GAPfund in July 2006 and implemented by Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF), India has entered the second year of operation successfully. The Bio-diesel Resource Center established at village Mahajane, District Raigad has collected over 2500 Kgs of Pongamia seeds through chain of procurement centers from neighbouring 20 villages. Bangladesh Coastal Women's Electrification Project- Women in Business for Energy

In 1999, ESMAP initiated a $175,000 project in Char Montaz, Bangladesh, offering an “Opportunity for Women in Renewable Energy Technology Use.” With technical assistance offered by Prokaushali Sangsad Ltd, and social mobilisation and micro-credit provided by South Asia Partnership, 32 women received energy technology training. They then formed the Coastal Women’s Electrification and Development Microenterprise which has grown into a medium sized enterprise with 117 employees. Read More>
